Since we started doing music each week, every Rockfield child has come a long way on an exciting musical journey. Each lesson offers opportunities to build really valuable skills – and we have a lot of fun along the way!
Music at Rockfield is being taught through an approach known as the Kodály method, which originated in Hungary but is now used worldwide. It is a fantastic way of developing a child’s inner ear, sense of rhythm and true intonation (singing in tune). At first simple songs and rhymes are used, and gradually with these building blocks in place, children are then well-equipped to start learning musical instruments. Penny whistle, ukulele, recorder, samba and percussion are now being taught to different age groups across the school!
