Pupils from Rockfield’s Gaelic unit soared to success at The National Mod in Stornoway which took place from 15th-23rd October. Rufus Hughes and Scott MacPhee’s hard work and dedication paid off, with each claiming numerous prizes and even a TV appearance! Scott MacPhee, won the storytelling competition for children aged 5-8 years as well as taking second place in both his recitation, conversation and poster competition. His classmate Rufus Hughes, claimed the Sabhal Mòr Ostaig silver Medal for winning the conversation category and also took third place for recitation.
More success was to be had by several of the unit’s Gaelic teachers. Krista MacInnes, P1 teacher, took 3rd place in the singing of a Skye or Sutherland song and earned the highest points for Gaelic. Primary 3/2 teacher Rachael Deans, won the duet competition with her sister and also the quartet competition. The pupils and teachers are all looking forward to fundraising and preparing for The National Mod in Fort William next year.
