Welcome to Rockfield Primary School Website
Rockfield moved into a purpose built joint campus in August 2007 and incorporates accommodation and facilities for pre-5 (Gaelic and English)and mainstream, Gaelic and Learning Centre primary age pupils. The present roll is 348 pupils, which includes 42 children who are taught through the medium of the Gaelic language. At present, these children are in three teaching bases: P1 /2; P3/4; P5/6/7. Pupils are drawn mainly from a catchment area covering the southern half of the town and comprising a mixture of private and local authority housing. The school, which aims to provide a balanced and differentiated curriculum to meet the needs of all its pupils, has a staffing complement of 18.3 FTE which includes the Head Teacher, Depute Head Teacher and 3 Principal Teachers. Classroom assistants and pupils support assistants provide support to teaching staff and pupils. We also have instructors for musical instruments. Our nursery currently runs 3 daily sessions, 2 in English and 1 in Gaelic. They have access to two rooms and an outdoor learning area.
As the oldest primary school in Oban, Rockfield has strong traditional links with the community. From time to time, pupils are involved in fund-raising for various charities, entertaining at concerts, etc. Support personnel include 3 clerical assistants who are mainly office based and 2 clerical assistants whose duties also include working with children with Additional Support Needs. Further support for pupils with Additional Support Needs is provided by visiting members of the Area Network Support Team and from the staff of the Primary Learning Centre.
